Why do people quit mental health apps so quickly?

I've heard they can be really helpful but engagement seems low. What's the deal?

From my experience, it's often because these apps lack the personal touch you get with a real therapist. The reminders and prompts are nice, but after a while, they can feel a bit mechanical. You know, like they don't really understand what you're going through. Plus, if you're not seeing immediate improvements, it's easy to get discouraged and just stop using them. I think they work best when combined with real-life therapy sessions. That way you get the best of both worlds.

As someone who tried a few of these apps, I think it comes down to expectations vs. reality. People might start using them, thinking they'll feel better instantly, but mental health isn't that straightforward. Apps are a tool, but they aren't magic. Also, not all apps are one-size-fits-all, and it takes a bit of trial and error to find the right one. Keeping up with it can feel like a chore if the app doesn't fit well with your lifestyle or isn't engaging enough. Also, if symptoms are severe, professional help is probably a better path.
