I'm curious about the balance between staying active and overdoing it as we age.

As a personal trainer specializing in seniors, I can tell you that the 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week is a solid target. This could be walking, swimming, or cycling, broken down into 30-minute sessions, five days a week. It's also really important to incorporate strength training at least twice a week. This helps counteract muscle loss as you age. Many of my clients also find that balance exercises are invaluable in reducing fall risk. But listen to your body. If something feels off, it's okay to adjust your routine. Start small and gradually increase intensity, and make sure to stay hydrated and stretch before and after workouts.

In my experience, sticking to the 150 minutes a week suggestion really helped me. I turned 70 last year, and walking has been my go-to. I aim for about 30 minutes of brisk walking most days, and on weekends, I throw in some gardening which I really enjoy. For me, it's not just about the numbers but also doing activities that bring joy. I've also noticed that when I added some light weight lifting twice a week, I felt stronger. It's crucial to keep it enjoyable to stay motivated. Remember, rest days are just as important!
